Hey there! This is definitely important for increasing your search traffic but it doesn’t stand alone. To really get good traffic you’ll also need to be promoting your content and building up a backlinks profile.

If your category pages are integral to your website then there is a lot you can do to help. For example, consider changing that heading 1 from “Category: Place” to the actual keyword you want to rank for. You may also balance the optimisation of individual posts with ensuring your category pages are doing their best by giving each post’s featured image an alt tag that helps out the cat page too. Think about those post titles too, how many contain the words ‘Thailand Travel Blog?’ These are the heading 2’s that appear on the cat page so they’ll play their part. Finally, consider adding a bigger introduction of unique and well-optimised content with headings to the top of these pages.

Hi. I m wondering if you or anyone else in the comments here actually have seen better search rankings after having done this? Logically it makes very good sense. But in reality it isn t working. I designed my category pages to be the key to my searchability and while they are in the Google index, Google seems to think they are of no value whatsoever. I m here on this page because I do have categories, with descriptions that provide value and echo my SEO meta data. They ve been that way for at least a year now. My categories are already well designed, and yet they never are returned in Google searches, not even in the omitted results! Individual posts may be, but never the categories, unless you suffix the query with my domain name (eg travel blog thailand powerstotravel ). I just don t return when users query travel blog thailand .
